For Teams

10 Ways to Keep CliftonStrengths Alive After a Team Workshop

This practical guide helps teams embed strengths into daily work, conversations, and decisions, so strengths become a shared language for collaboration and sustainable performance, not a one-off event.

01

Start Meetings with a Strengths Lens

Begin meetings by naming which strengths are most helpful for the agenda. This sets intention and reminds the team that different contributions are needed for different outcomes.

02

Name Strengths When Things Go Well

When a project succeeds, name the strengths that made it possible. This reinforces what is working and helps teams repeat success intentionally.

03

Use Strengths Language During Tension

When friction arises, shift the conversation from personality to strengths. Ask: 'What strength might be driving this behaviour?' This reduces defensiveness and blame.

04

Rotate Leadership Based on Strengths

Allow different people to lead different discussions or initiatives based on their strengths, rather than hierarchy alone. This builds ownership and inclusion.

05

Add Strengths to Decision-Making

Before finalising a decision, ask which strengths have informed the choice, and which may be missing. This leads to more balanced and thoughtful outcomes.

06

Pair Complementary Strengths Intentionally

Encourage collaboration between people with complementary strengths. This reduces blind spots and improves execution without forcing people to change who they are.

07

Normalise Overuse Conversations

Create psychological safety to talk about when strengths are overplayed. Overuse is not failure. It is a signal that regulation or balance is needed.

08

Integrate Strengths into Feedback

Frame feedback through a strengths lens. Name the strength, acknowledge its value, and then discuss how it can be used more effectively.

09

Revisit Strengths During Transitions

During role changes, new projects, or organisational shifts, revisit strengths. Ask how strengths can support the team through uncertainty and change.

10

Link Strengths to Energy and Sustainability

Encourage team members to notice how their strengths affect their energy. Sustainable performance comes from using strengths with awareness and regulation, not constant amplification.

Remember

Strengths are not labels. They are tools. When used intentionally, they help teams work better together, navigate pressure, and perform without erosion.

Strengths Aligned supports individuals, teams, and organisations to recognise, integrate, and use their CliftonStrengths with clarity and intention, so people work well, collaborate better, and perform sustainably.
